My name is Mark Williams and I am the current CEO of the Queenstown Trails Trust.  I’m really passionate about the role the trust plays in delivering a recreational and commuter trail network for our community and the associated social and wellbeing benefits.

When I’m not busy plotting or building new trails, you can often find me racing around on my bike, training for the next big adventure. Since moving to Queenstown over 20 years ago, I’ve always enjoyed mountain biking, in particular multi-day stage racing, enjoying success in some major events including the BC Bike Race (Canada), Cape Epic (South Africa) and Pioneer (NZ). I was also 7th in the 2012 24hr Elite Mens World Championships in Australia, as well as Masters National MTB champion in 2018. We also just recently returned from a successful campaign in Canada, where we took out the mixed title in the 7-day Trans-Rockies and second team overall. It seems that age is no barrier to long-distance endurance events!

Goals for the next 12 months include the 2019 Pioneer MTB Stage race in December, where we are 2-time mixed champions. This event could lead to automatic qualification for another Cape Epic in Africa, but the ultimate goal is to travel to Switzerland and compete in the 2020 Swiss Epic next August. Finishing this race would put us in an elite group of ‘Epic Legends’, having completed all 3 Epic events (Cape Epic, Pioneer and Swiss Epic).

We’re really excited to form this partnership with Pivot Bikes and are looking forward to piloting our new super-fast Mach 4 SL’s to some big days on the trails. With back-to-back 100km stages in your legs, having the right bikes is critical to the end result, and Pivot have nailed it with this new XC/Marathon weapon!
