Rise and Shred

The enduro-bred Firebird is danger and daring dialed in. It’s built of
carbon and courage, urging you to give in to gravity on the descent and
willfully defy it on the climb. With nearly bottomless suspension, it’s so
planted it may as well grow roots. Roots that can fly. Look, we don’t get
it, either — but you will when you ride it.

MAKE IT YOURS

Available in XS to XL frame sizes, the Firebird accommodates more riders and more riding styles than ever before. It introduces a new adjustable chainstay length with our patented Swinger® dropout system, letting you quickly switch between longer or shorter chainstay lengths. You can further tune your ride with the suspension flip chip: select the more progressive setting for a poppy and lively ride, or a more linear setup to keep the bike as planted as possible.

FAQS

Which size bike should I purchase?

To ensure the best sizing, we recommend that you visit your local Pivot dealer to get a professional fit and refer to our geometry chart to check your measurements. However, we can provide a rough guideline:

X-Small: 4'11" – 5'4" | 1,50 – 1,63 m

Small: 5'2" – 5'8" | 1,57 – 1,73 m

Medium: 5'9" – 6' | 1,73 – 1,83 m

Large: 5'11" – 6'4" | 1,80 – 1,93 m

X-Large: 6'1" + | 1,85 m +

We suggest that you pick your Firebird size based on your riding style. The Firebird features progressive long reach geometry with both short seat tube and head tube measurements per size – this geometry means that most riders can go up or down a size and should base their choice on riding-style, reach and stem length preferences. Be sure to also consult our dropper post fit guide when making your selection. You can always reach out to us on Live Chat for additional guidance.

How do I set the sag on my bike?

Watch how we set up suspension with Pivot’s Pro Garage Videos https://www.pivotcycles.com/en/pivot-cycles-tech-video-hub/

For the recommended 30% sag, the measurement for the Firebird is 19-20mm. For more information on how to set up your Firebird’s suspension check out the suspension setup guide found in Tech Specs.

What is the geometry flip chip on the Firebird and when would I want to use it?

The geometry flip chip is a simple way to adjust the geometry on your Firebird. It allows you to either adjust the geometry for different trail conditions or handling characteristics with two positions.

With 29” wheels the “low” setting is perfect for riding fast, technical and steep terrain. However, if your preference is for a little more crank clearance and slightly quicker handling for tighter terrain with more climbing and/or roots and rocks, you may prefer the “high” setting. The high setting will raise the bottom bracket and steepen the head angle by 0.5 degrees giving the bike faster turn in.

We use the high setting for mixed wheels builds (29” front/27.5” rear). Although putting the flip chip in the low position will have the same effect of lowering the BB and slackening the angles by 0.5 degrees, most riders may find the BB too low for good pedaling clearance. If you want to use the low setting with mixed wheels you may want to run the suspension in the more progressive setting and possibly add volume spacers to the shock as well as considering even shorter crank arms for more pedal clearance.

How do I use the geometry adjust flip chip system?

The Firebird’s flip chip geometry adjustment system is super easy to use. Simply loosen using a 6mm hex wrench (these are reverse, so you need to turn the wrench to the right to loosen). Partially back out the bolts – there is no need to completely remove the bolts. Then pull the chips out and rotate them to your desired position, tighten the bolts to 35 Nm and enjoy your bike’s new handling and feel. Please see the geometry chart for the numbers associated with the different settings.

Can I set up the Firebird with mixed wheels (29” front and 27.5” rear)?

Yes, we offer the Firebird with mixed wheels or dual 29” wheels. If you would like to set your bike up with a different rear wheel than you purchased, you will need a compatible 157mm spacing rear wheel. We also recommend having the flip chip in the high position for mixed wheels, to help offset the geometry changes from the smaller rear wheel.

XS frames are only compatible with a 27.5” rear wheel.

How do I use the progressivity flip chip on the Firebird?

The Firebird comes with the progressivity flip chip in the progressive setting. This being with the lower shock bolt in the rear position. This setting provides more ramp up and support at the end of the travel. This is the best position if running a coil shock as well. If you prefer a more consistent feel all the way through the travel and a more supple ride, then you may prefer the linear position. The more linear setting is with the chip flipped so the shock bolt is in the forward position.

The progressivity chip has two positions. To change the setting loosen the lower shock bolt until you can remove the flip chip on the non-drive side. Then back out the drive side flip chip too. Rotate both chips 180 degrees and reinsert into the frame. Torque the shock bolt to 13Nm. A step-by-step guide of this process can be found under Tech Specs.

How do I change chainstay length with the Swinger UDH on the Firebird?

he Firebird has a two-position chainstay length adjustment with adjustable dropouts that gives you an adjustment of 8mm between the short and long positions. We used our patented Swinger Dropout to make this adjustment compatible with all drivetrains in both settings. Because this is such a significant change in geometry you will need a different chain length and setup between the two positions.

When changing between settings you will need to rotate the drive side Swinger dropout and non-drive side flip chip, flip the rear brake caliper bolts and bracket 180 degrees and setup your drivetrain for the new chainstay length. Check out the tech video in Pivot’s Pro Garage Videos https://www.pivotcycles.com/en/pivot-cycles-tech-video-hub/ or follow the steps in the Firebird Frame Features Tech Doc.

How wide of a tire can I run on the Firebird?

The Firebird can run 29” up to 2.5” or 27.5” rear wheels with tires up to 2.6” wide. For tires we don’t spec, most will fit up to these dimensions. If you decide to change the tires or wheels that we have on our builds, we suggest you check the fit with your chosen rim and tire combination to make sure it has proper clearance. We recommend a minimum of 8mm of clearance between the tire and frame to account for tire roll and mud clearance.

What is the Toolshed™?

The Toolshed is Pivot’s internal storage and cable management system. This feature allows you to store all your ride essentials safely and cleanly inside the frame. Custom made storage bags are included with each frame. The Toolshed also includes internal cable guides to keep your routing clean and quiet, even on the roughest surfaces. Check out the Toolshed and its features in the Pivot’s Pro Garage Video https://www.pivotcycles.com/en/pivot-cycles-tech-video-hub/

What headset do I need?

The Firebird features an oversized straight head tube compatible with larger 56mm ID headsets (ZS56/ZS56). This allows you to use angle adjust or reach adjust headsets to fine tune your fit and handling for different tracks.

Can I run a water bottle on the Firebird?

Yes, you can mount a water bottle cage inside the front triangle on the Tool Shed™ door and put a large water bottle in it on all sizes - even the XS.

Can I mount a chainguide on my Firebird?

Yes. The Firebird features ISCG05 mounts on the frame. Most upper guides on the market will fit but compatibility is dependent on the Q factor of the crank. Narrow 168mm Q Factor cranks will have clearance issues with some of the more popular guides on the market. Fortunately, most trail/enduro cranks have a Q factor that is 174mm or greater.

How large of a rotor will fit on the Firebird?

The Firebird features a custom rear brake adapter and bolts to work with our Swinger UDH chainstay length adjustment. The Firebird will only work with 200/203mm rear rotors. The fork can accept up to a 223 with the correct brake mount adapter.

What travel fork can I use on my Firebird?

The Firebird was designed for fork travel of 170mm. Maximum travel for the Firebird is 180mm travel.

What is the fork offset on the Firebird?

44mm

Can I put a coil-over shock on my Firebird?

Yes, The Firebird features a flip chip with a more progressive option (rearward shock mount position) that functions well with coil-over shocks. If you want to run a coil over shock, we recommend the Fox DHX2 or Neo Live Valve Coil for their best-in-class performance, reliability and adjustability.

*Please check all clearances prior to using any shock other than those spec’d or specifically recommended by Pivot. Your Firebird will not be covered under warranty if damage occurs due to shock incompatibility.

What is the eye-to-eye shock lengthand stroke length on the Firebird?

The Firebird uses a trunnion style
upper mount, 205mm eye-to-eye length, and 65mm stroke.

What do I need to know about Fox Live Valve NEO?

The latest version of Fox Live Valve NEO was developed with the fastest wireless protocol. This allows the suspension to make adjustments faster than the rider can feel the terrain or switch a lever. You will always have the right support and traction when you need it. Pivot worked directly with Fox during the development process of Live Valve NEO. We tested various tunes and algorithms in different riding locations to get the tune perfected for each bike model. With the Live Valve NEO coil-over, it is the absolutely the best of both worlds with incredible pedaling efficiency with that super plush, connected feel that coil shocks are known for.

If I want to run a different brand of shock on my Firebird, what else do I need to know?

The Firebird shock uses a trunnion style upper mount with M8 through bolt hardware on the bottom. Shock spacer dimensions are 30mm wide on the bottom mount. We are using medium valving on the compression and rebound damping.

How do volume spacers effect the suspension feel?

Larger volume spacers will resist bottoming, allow the bike to ride higher in the stroke and generally make the bike feel more “poppy.” If a rider is not getting full stroke or they feel that the bike is riding too high in its stroke, even with sag set properly, then they should go to a smaller volume spacer.

What volume spacers are used in the Firebird shock?

The Firebird Pro and Team builds with the 2026 Float X2 shock use one 2cc (cubic centimeters) volume spacers. This Float X2 shock will fit volume spacers from none up to 14cc (7 volume spacers maximum). Use more spacers for a more progressive feel or less spacers for a more linear feel.
Firebird Ride builds X2 shocks come without any volume spacers installed. This X2 uses 0.25 cu in volume spacers. The maximum number of volume spacer that can be run in this shock are 2. If you want an even more progressive end stroke you can add up to 2 volume spacers.
P/N: 233-00-240 Description: Float X2 Air Spring Volume Spacers

What volume spacers are used in the Firebird fork?

The FOX 38 170mm fork comes stock
with 2 spacers and can handle a maximum of 7 spacers.

P/N: 234-44-189 | Description: Volume Spacer, FLOAT 38, 10cc Yellow

What size seatpost does the Firebird use?

The Firebird frame uses a 31.6mm seatpost.

What size seat clamp does the Firebird use?

The Firebird frame uses a 36.4mm or 36.5mm (as some manufacturers call it) seatpost clamp.

What is the maximum seatpost insertion depth on the Firebird?

The Firebird has short seat tube lengths and deep insertion depths for compatibility with long travel dropper
seatposts. Please see the dropper seatpost guide for common dropper post model compatibility. You can check the maximum insertion depth of other seatposts per frame size below:

XS – 245 mm

S – 275 mm

M – 295 mm

L – 330 mm

XL – 360 mm

The Firebird has different chainstay lengths for each size, can I mix and match front and rear triangles for different geometry?

No, all sizes of the Firebird use the same rear triangle design. The chainstay length differences by size are managed in the design of the front triangle. However, we developed the Swinger UDH so you have 8mm of chainstay length adjustment between short and long on every frame size.

What bottom bracket is used on the Firebird?

Pressfit BB92 bottom bracket

What kind of rear derailleur hanger does the Firebird use?

The Firebird uses the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) for drivetrains that require a hanger. SRAM transmission builds mount directly to the frame in place of the hanger. This derailleur hanger is compatible with all derailleurs on the market that require a derailleur hanger. We spec this hanger because it has some clever derailleur saving features and is more likely to be found at any shop and is also available in our webstore.

What rear axle does the Firebird use?

The Firebird uses an axle for 157mm rear spacing designed for the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) standard. The rear axle supplied with the frame is a Pivot specific design using a 12mm X 1.0mm thread pitch. SRAM also makes compatible 157mm UDH axles. Pivot 157mm UDH compatible axles can be found in our webstore.

What rear hub spacing is used on the Firebird?

The Firebird uses a 157mm rear hub spacing in a configuration called Super Boost Plus 157. Super Boost Plus 157 builds on the idea of wider flange spacing pioneered by Boost 148. Super Boost Plus spreads the flanges even wider (up to 14mm wider then a 142mm hub) and increases wheel stiffness substantially (Approximately 30% stiffer than a boost 148mm rear wheel), which is a huge benefit for wheel and frame strength, as well as chainring and tire clearance.

What cranks will the Firebird accept?

The Firebird will accept cranks designed for 55-56.5mm chainlines and compatible with a press fit 92mm bottom bracket. The Super Boost Plus system is based on several standard cranks in the market. When you purchase your Firebird complete from Pivot it comes with cranks and a chainring optimized for the correct chainline for its drivetrain. Super Boost Plus was designed around a 56.5mm chainline but new drivetrains such as SRAM Transmission are based on a 55mm chainline which was taken into account in all our bike designs.

The Firebird will accept cranks with a standard Q factor measurement as low as 168mm and featuring a 55-57mm chainline

What size chainring can I use on the Firebird?

The Firebird was designed and optimized for 32t chainrings. You can go as large as 36t, but always check for frame clearance and proper chainline before hitting the trail with something that is not spec.

What are the torque specs?

A detailed PDF including torque specs
can be found under the "Tech Specs" tab in the small parts schematic.

How much does it weigh?

The Firebird frame weights start at 6.18 lbs (2.8 kg) and our complete Team XTR build comes in at under 32.3 lbs (14.6 kg). Pivot bicycles are among the lightest available, but the weight is only one of many factors that make a great bicycle. Other aspects such as frame stiffness, strength, durability, and ride quality are just as important as weight to our engineers when designing our Hollow Core Carbon and aluminum frames. Instead of comparing grams online, we suggest you visit your local Pivot dealer and see our attention to detail, smart, high value spec, and class leading features. Bring a scale if you’d like but take just one demo ride and you’ll feel why Pivot Cycles are the most well-rounded, highest performing bicycles on the market and in many cases, yes, it’s the lightest as well

How do I set up the SRAM Eagle AXSTransmission on my Firebird?

SRAM AXS Transmission has a unique installation process that you must follow to set up this drivetrain on your Firebird properly. The compete installation instructions can be found at https://www.sram.com/en/service/browse-by-product
Refer to SRAM’s chain length calculator for the proper setup information and chain sizing https://axs.sram.com/guides/chain/calculator

Can I use a dual crown fork on my Firebird?

No. Although the Firebird is a longer travel bike capable descending the steepest and roughest trails, it is only designed for use with single crown forks.

Can I use an aftermarket link from a third party on my Firebird?

No. Any aftermarket linkage not
approved by Pivot immediately voids the frame warranty for any issue that could
occur related to these aftermarket parts.
