To ensure the best sizing, we recommend that you visit your local Pivot dealer to get a professional fit and refer to our geometry chart to check your measurements.

We suggest that you pick your Phoenix based on your riding style. The Phoenix features long and low geometry, and all sizes have the same head tube length and a very narrow range of seat tube length. This means that riders should pick their frame sizing based on top tube length and reach measurements.

Proper shock sag for the Phoenix is 30%. The measurement for this on the 75mm stroke shock on the Phoenix is 22.5mm. A comprehensive suspension setup guide can be accessed under the Tech Specs tab. This includes our sag setting process and starting recommendations for rebound and compression.

The Phoenix was originally tested and optimized to run a FOX DHX2 Coil or Float X2 air shock. You can run just about any 225mm X 75mm stroke shock with a Trunnion mount upper and M8x30 lower mounting hardware on the market in coil or air with the proper tune. We typically run medium valving on the compression side (depending on rider weight) and medium rebound damping. There are other high-quality shocks in the market. However, as we cannot test every shock on the market, riders assume the risk if they choose a shock that we do not spec or that does not fit properly or is not tuned correctly for the bike.

Eye-to-eye: 225mm Stroke: 75mm

The Phoenix shock features a trunnion style upper mount and uses M8 through bolt hardware on the bottom mount. Shock spacer dimensions are 30mm wide on the bottom mount.

The Phoenix can run any 29” specific dual crown DH fork with travel ranging from 190mm to 203mm.

The Phoenix features an oversized straight head tube compatible with larger 56mm ID headsets (ZS56/ZS56). This allows you to use angle adjust or reach adjust headsets to fine tune your fit and handling for different tracks.

The dual-idler design on the Phoenix requires proprietary cranks and chainrings. If you need any replacement parts you can easily order them directly from Pivot. The crank is based on the Praxis Cadet HD with a Praxis PF92 BB. For reference the Cadet HD and DH9 cranks feature identical arms with the only difference being spindle length. With the Phoenix DH we are able to run standard Enduro/Trail Q factors for better pedaling efficiency and ground clearance. The Phoenix’s special rings are available through Pivot but will bolt right up to the standard Praxis Cadet HD 3 bolt mounting standard.

The dual idler mount is eccentric to allow for chain tension adjustments for the inner chain. To adjust this, you will need to remove the chain guard. Loosen the bolt on the non-drive side of the idler axle. Use a 22mm wrench to adjust the idler to the correct chain tension. Hold the wrench in place while you torque the axle bolt back down to 35Nm. Confirm that the rotation of the cranks is smooth and the chain will not derail from the rings. Then re-install the chain guard. A step-by-step guide of this process can be found under Tech Specs.

In the S3 size the frame with cranks weighs 11.29 lbs (5.1kg). The Pro build weighs 35.36 (16kg) and the Ride build weighs 35.98 (16.3kg).

More volume spacers, also called bottomless tokens, will resist bottoming, allow the bike to ride higher in the stroke and generally make the bike feel more “poppy”. If a rider is not getting full stroke or they feel that the bike is riding too high in its stroke, even with sag set properly, then they should go to a smaller volume spacer.

The Phoenix with a Float X2 shock comes with two 0.25 cu in volume spacers. The Phoenix’s Float X2 will fit a maximum of 5 volume spacers and a minimum of 0. The shock can handle more spacers for a more progressive feel or less spacers for a more linear feel. The Fox part number for the Float X2 Clip-in, Plastic, 0.25 cu in spacers is 233-00-240 . The Phoenix Builds with the Rock Shox Vivid shock comes with one Bottomless Tokens installed. This shock’s maximum is four installed tokens. The Rock Shox part number for these tokens is 11.4118.051.011.

The chip comes set up in the low BB setting. This is perfect for riding fast, technical and steep terrain. However, if your preference is for a little more crank clearance and slightly quicker handling for tighter terrain with more roots and rocks, you may prefer the high BB setting. The high BB setting will raise the bottom bracket and steepen the head angle by 1⁄2 degree giving the bike faster turn in. The Phoenix’s flip chip geometry adjustment system is super easy to use. There is a graphic on the frame showing the chip position for reference. Simply loosen using a 6mm hex wrench (these are reverse, so you need to turn the wrench to the right to loosen). Partially back out the bolts – there is no need to completely remove the bolts. Then pull the chips out and rotate them to your desired position, tighten the bolts to 35 Nm and enjoy your bike’s new handling and feel. The Phoenix comes with the progressivity flip chip in the linear setting. This being with the lower shock bolt in the forward position. This is perfect for most riders and most tracks. The more progressive setting is with the chip flipped so the shock bolt is to the rear position. This more progressive setting is based on Bernard Kerr’s personal preference. The progressivity chip has two positions. To change the setting loosen the lower shock bolt until you can remove the flip chip on the non-drive side. Then back out the drive side flip chip too. Rotate both chips 180 degrees and reinsert into the frame. Torque the shock bolt to 13Nm. A step-by-step guide of this process can be found under Tech Specs.

You can but the Phoenix does not feature internal dropper post routing so an electronic wireless dropper would be the best option.

No, The Phoenix was only designed to run a 27.5” rear wheel.

You can fit almost any 27.5” x 2.5” tires available on the market. If you choose to use something that is not our standard specification, we suggest you check the fit with your chosen rim and tire combination to make sure it has proper clearance before riding. Most tires up to our listed maximum size will fit, but rim width and tire manufacture sizing call outs and tire inconsistency can result in huge difference among both tire brands and individual tires.

The Phoenix uses the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) standard developed by SRAM. This derailleur hanger is compatible with all derailleurs on the market – not just SRAM. We spec this hanger because it has some clever derailleur saving features and is more likely to be found at any shop and is also available in our webstore.

The Phoenix uses an axle for 157mm rear spacing designed for the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) standard. The rear axle supplied with the frame is a Pivot specific design using a 12mm X 1.0mm thread pitch. SRAM also makes compatible 157mm UDH axles. Pivot 157mm UDH compatible axles can be found in our webstore.

The Phoenix uses a 12x157mm rear hub spacing. Super Boost hubs are preferred because they spread the flanges wider increasing wheel stiffness substantially. Traditional 12x157mm hubs will work as well.

The Phoenix is designed for a 200/203mm rear rotor. A 200/203mm rotor is the only size rotor that can be used on the rear. On the front, we spec the Phoenix with a 223mm front rotor and an adaptor to convert from 200/203mm post mount to a 223mm post mount. The fork can also accept a 200/203mm rotor without any adapter.
